It was a epic collapse bill. Do you think Lavy has lost this team? It would appear so

"The truth hurts. Not as much as jumping on a bicycle with the seat missing, but it hurts."

Another good summary of the game - and season, Bill.

Congrats on the birth of your daughter! M4's sibling is due in 3 months and we can't wait.

Same mistakes every night, pathetic! Is it not time for a coaching change?

A hearty congratulations on the birth of your daughter, Bill. I can't imagine things are slow-paced for you right now - so thanks for all the hard work. It's always nice to open the website to a new Flyers Blog.

i agree, but i just do not see them pulling the plug on lavvy yet, with hitchcock and stevens everyone knew it was coming.

in his defence, he has guys playing like gervais, gusty, fedotenko, briere, knuble, who dont contibute much and hurt the team more then helping

also guys like bschenn, cooty, talbot, g are not playing up to last year

kimmo is toast

our backup goalie is boucher the relic

And is this season really only a month and a half old? The heavy bags under my eyes and Pebble Beach track marks on my arm tell a different story.

Theory: After Keith Primeau went down in 2005-06, it was said (& later corroborated by himself) that the Flyers lost the liaison between Hitchcock and the rest of the team. Could it be that the same thing happened here with the loss of Chris Pronger last year? It's too similar in terms of listlessness in their absences.

We already knew that other teams' in-game adjustments have often been better than Philly's pretty much all year. Last night, Dan Bylsma adjusted to what made the first period so dominant for Philly. His team stopped being reckless and undisciplined, and Philly had no counterpunches to offer when they actually had to fight for space and go 200 feet.

I think this pretty much sums up the season.

First off, congrats to you, Bill! There's not a better feeling in the world than becoming a parent! Your statements about last night's game (and this Flyers team as a whole) were spot-on. What do you think the solutions are? I think it's obviously time to move on from Peter Laviolette. As much as I like the guy, the Flyers are just ill-equipped to play his run-and-gun style of hockey. There defense is abysmal and, with Lavy's style of play, you need a good, mobile defense that has the ability to make transition passes through the neutral zone. The Flyers' defense is none of these. But on top of Laviolette, do you think it's time for an overall philosophical change with this team (ie: replace Paul Holmgren as well)? They are in this situation because of poor drafting, mismanagement of their farm system, poor cap management, bad scouting....the list can go on. To me, wholesale changes are needed with this club. Yet, I know Ed Snider is always reluctant to make changes with individuals he is loyal too.

Congratulations Bill!

Something has got to give here. I can't see the management just sitting idly by. Either a big trade is going to happen or there will be a coaching change! Most likely the latter! There is a lot of talent on this team. There is no reason for these abysmal performances!

Um.. Brayden Schenn already has more points than last year in less than half the games.

Spot on as usual Bill. I can't even get mad about the game last night, I'm more depressed about it than anything. When it was 4-1 after the first, it just seemed like most guys thought they had already won. At 4-2, I knew the Flyers would lose. They stopped skating, were pinned in their own zone, when they made it out of the zone none of the outlet passes were crisp and they had zero attack zone time. 20 minutes a night isn't getting it done. Where have Briere, Couturier, Talbot, Coburn, et al. disappeared to? I might find them on the back of a milk carton! Although I might not fault Bryz on any of the goals last night, he simply doesn't make the big save when you need him to. Even Kimmo made a stupid play at the blue line in the beginning of the 3rd that cost the Flyers a goal. Not sure what L. Schenn was doing on the 2 on 1, but you always give the goalie the shooter and take away the pass. He didn't and Kunitz had an empty net. Simply disgusting!

It's more likely that Eddie-boy should have been more willing to part with more korunas to help Jagr pay off gambling debts...
